I began using linux in the fall of 1998 while a senior at college. My switch from Windows to Linux was based on being fed up with the blue screen of death. I needed a more robust programming and research environment for my senior project at Bard. What has amazed me over these years is the richness and power of the GNU environment.
I run the linux kernel on two computers.
